If you read the book of Genesis, God first created Heaven, then earth. When earth was formed, it did not have any form, it was empty and dark. To bring life to earth, God first created Light by commanding “Let there be Light”.
'And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. ' Genesis 1:3
From the day Lord had created light, it’s the source to many things in this world. Light’s intensity influences the manufacture of plant food, stem length, leaf color and flowering. Likewise Light produces Vitamin D in humans, which is a essential nutrient for us. With so many good things we have on this light, Bible teaches many thing on Light
As I was meditating 1 John 1, God taught me more on this Light and its effect of our spiritual growth with Jesus.
Definition of God
'This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. ‘ 1 John 1:5
One way to define God is – “God is the only infinite, eternal, and unchangeable spirit, the perfect being in whom all things begin, and continue, and end”
Another way to define God is “God is light”
Words in Bible is so marvellous; you must do slow reading to unearth the marvellous words of God and to enjoy how much wisdom that comes from this one-line definition. There are many like this, the One line definition of God is - “God is light”, like wise when Pharisees asked him what is the greatest commandment, his response was classic “'Jesus replied: “
‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. ‘ Matthew 22:37-38
Later part of the verse - “in him there is no darkness at all” – This means there is no sin in him.
Walking with God
'But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. ' 1 John 1:7
This verse explains why we should walk with Jesus and the effects of us walking with him.
WE
The word “We” is referenced twice “we walk in the light” & “we have fellowship”, we refers to anyone who has faith in Christ or follower of Christ. So the message of hope is he is with us as we walk with him.
Fellowship
The word fellowship is having a continuous relationship, when we have fellowship with Jesus, we will become more like Him. The verse goes on to say, “Fellowship with one Another”, what is this mean
We have many relationships in the world, we meet with friends regular as you share a common bond, like wise for boy / girl to meet the relationship is due to “love”.
If we must have this fellowship with Jesus, we need to acknowledge the sins we have, then only you can come to “fellowship with one another”. We must have the realization that I am sinful, I get cleaned as I fellowship with Jesus. Sin is the biggest hurdle for us to have fellowship with Jesus.
We read an example of this “Fellowship with one another” in Luke 19 on Zacchaeus
'When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.” But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. ' Luke 19:5-9
Zacchaeus welcomed God the moment Jesus said “I must stay at your house today” – this is the fellowship part that John refers
Zacchaeus recognized the sins of his life and confesses to Jesus – “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount”
The moment the Acknowledgement of Sin is there, The sin is wiped out and God’s eternal blessings follows thru “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.”
Blood of Jesus - “the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”
The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin: As we walk in the light, we also enjoy the continual cleansing of Jesus. This continual cleansing is for us is done by the blood of Jesus. This can come only if you have fellowship with him “fellowship with one another”
We need continual cleansing as we live in the world, as sin comes to us daily thru lust of flesh, eyes, pride.
'For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. ' 1 John 2:16
Purifies from All Sins - We can be cleansed, by the blood of Jesus, from all sin. The sin we inherited from Adam, the sin we committed as kids, the sins of our growing up; sins against our father, against our mother, against our brother and sister; sins against our husbands or wives, against our children; sins against our employers or our employees, sins against our friends and our enemies; lying, stealing, cheating, adultery, swearing, drugs, booze, murder; sins that haunt us every day, sins we didn’t even know we did – all sin can be cleansed by the blood of Jesus.
That’s why Satan is afraid of Jesus – As his blood has the power to cleanse us, while he has the power to torment with our sins that we commit.
Spiritual summary of Light
Level 1 - We claim to walk in light - this is the 1st level. This comes if you say I have faith in Jesus.
Level 2 - Fellowship with Jesus- this is the 2nd level - This can come if you say I attend church every week, not once a month or once a year but every week.
Level 3 - Fellowship with one another - this is the 3rd level - This can come only if you have a relationship with God Daily, talking to him, understanding the purpose and guidance for your life.
Level 4 – Fellowship leading to Continuous cleansing - this is the 4th level - in this fellowship we seek for continuous cleansing. We live in world and our desires are sinful lust, to get rid of that sin from our life.
Level 5 - Assurance of all sins are cleansed - this is the 5th level, we are assured that we are cleansed from all sins, God’s Love makes us complete. The peace of God fills us as we go thru the worldly life.
