Jehovah-Makkeh

We learn more of how God dealt the Israelites as Jehovah-Makkeh

Ezekiel 7:8-9 'I am about to pour out my wrath on you and spend my anger against you. I will judge you according to your conduct and repay you for all your detestable practices. I will not look on you with pity; I will not spare you. I will repay you for your conduct and for the detestable practices among you. “ ‘Then you will know that it is I the Lord who strikes you. ‘

  • After hundreds of years of God telling his people that if they continue in sin they will surely die, the time has arrived; Nebuchadnezzar is on his way, judgment day is upon them. Ezekiel expresses that God has said, “It is I the Lord Who Strikes.” While the Israelites know Him as Jehovah-Jireh, Jehovah-Nissi, and the like, they will soon learn that there is also Jehovah-Makkeh.

  • When we talk of Jehovah-Makkeh, we are not discussing God's anger towards an ungodly, unbelieving world, nor are we talking about God's judgment upon the nations that influenced Israel. Here we are dealing with God’s determined punishment on his chosen people who have gone away in sin. (Ezekiel 9 ; 1 Peter 4:17; Revelation 2:16)

  • 1 Peter 4:17 'For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? '

  • Revelation 2:16 'Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. '

  • God used judges and prophets to warn his people of their destructive ways on multiple occasions. Here God uses Ezekiel to give the alert that judgment has come. He is slow to anger and abounding in mercy, giving them many times to repent. Rather than do so, they continued in their “detestable practices.” - “I will repay you for your conduct and for the detestable practices among you.

  • What were their detestable practices the Israelites were into? - Pride and idolatry, first and foremost.

  • God has given us one of the greatest books ever written ~ The Bible, filled with examples and warnings of what can happen when we do not submit our lives to him and repent. We are promised that Christ will return in judgment and we too will reap what we sow.

  • There simply is no way of getting around it! If we sow into a relationship with God through repentance, we reap an eternity with Him.

What are the things that makes God angry for Jehovah-Makkeh

  1. Our Pride - One of the first most detestable things in front of God is pride, when we get proud with our success of life, and we boast of it and not give credit to God. Pride comes from satan. God is opposed to pride. He expects us to be humble like how he was humble. 1 Corinthians 1:28-29 'God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. '

  2. Our relationship with him - Our God is a zealous God, he gets displeased when we don’t walk with him and ignore the relationship with him (This can happen when we give least importance to prayer and bible meditation time)

  • Prayer time is when we talk to him and he listens to us. God is displeased on things that steal our prayer time with him

  • Meditation is when he talks to us thru his word and guides us, God is displeased we spend time on things outside our meditation time

  1. Idols of the World and not worshipping him

  • He is displeased when we start having idols in our life (not necessary to have physical idols, these include the work / dress / things of life which we treat 1st)

  1. Earthly blessing impacting our Spiritual maturity

  • Every earthly blessing can blur our spiritual maturity, God sees if we continue to regard him or despise him when he blesses us in the world. When we are backsliding on these earthly blessing he will send a storm to correct us. He is zealous God Hebrews 12:28-29 'Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.”'

Jehovah-Makkeh - How he applies correction

  • Let us remember Jehovah-Makkeh is our Loving Heavenly Father. He still knows what is best.

  • When God loves us so much, he allows the enemy to have his hand on us to make his rod of correction, this can come in different form : sickness, physical disability, bereavement, disappointment, loss, sufferings, or heartaches.

  • God does not get grief to any one willingly, without his discipline, that means something good is given when he disciplines us.. Lamentations 3:32-33 'Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to anyone. '

Actions we can take

  • REPENT AND SEEK THE LORD YOUR GOD, TURN TO HIM THAT YOU MAY BE SAVED

  • God will relent his rod of correction once we repent with our heart and come close to him.

  • The end times God’s wrath will be miserable, we cannot endure the dreadful judgement days.. Joel 2:11 'The Lord thunders at the head of his army; his forces are beyond number, and mighty is the army that obeys his command. The day of the Lord is great; it is dreadful. Who can endure it? '

  • If you are a child of God, repent on the sins that made you turn away. Let us remember Jehovah-Makkeh is our Loving Heavenly Father. He still knows what is best. The struggles that you go thru is to make you better. So that we fix the eyes on Jesus to finish our life to his perfection Hebrews 12:2 'fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. '
