Dunamis Power of God

Throughout history, humans have constructed everything by hand, gradually advancing towards an industrial revolution that introduced machines and increased human power. The development of computers has further amplified our cognitive abilities and capacity to process information. However, with the emergence of new age technology and social trends, there is a growing concern that technology may eventually render humans obsolete.

God desires to grant humans the power of "Dunamis" to enable us to fulfil his will.

Dunamis power is a Greek term used in the Bible to refer to the miraculous power of God. The word "dunamis" means "ability," "strength," or "power." It describes the incredible power that God possesses and can bestow to his children thru Holy Spirit. With the help of the Holy Spirit, believers can do extraordinary things, such as healing the sick, casting out demons, and performing other miracles. Dunamis power is not something that can be earned or acquired through human effort, but it is a gift that God freely gives to those who trust in Him.

Dunamis power can be described by what Job writes about the powers and wonders of God

Job 5:9 - ‘He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted. ‘

Examples of Dunamis Power

Elijah & Ahab

Ahab and Jezebel were the most wicked and evil rulers Israel had ever known. They employed 850 prophets of Baal and his consort, Ashera, and were killing the prophets of Yahweh. After Elijah (God’s major prophet) told Ahab there would be no rain for years to come and not until I say so, they were determined to kill him. This is the story of the prophet Elijah who ran from the King Ahab.

1 Kings 18:46 (NIV) - 'The power of the Lord came on Elijah and, tucking his cloak into his belt, he ran ahead of Ahab all the way to Jezreel.'

1 Kings 19:7-13 (NIV) - 'The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the Lord came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.” The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord , for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord , but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” '

We see the Dunamis power of God Manifest before Elijah

  • Lord’s instruction to Elijah to stand in the mountain for the presence of the Lord to pass - “The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord , for the Lord is about to pass by.”

  • The Power of the wind tore the mountains rocks and shattered - Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord

  • After the wind passed by there was earthquake - “After the wind there was an earthquake”

  • After earthquake there was fire - “After the earthquake came a fire”

  • Think for a moment - if it was normal human, he would have been thrown out once the wind comes. This is the Dunamis power that comes from God to make Elijah stand in front of God without impacting him.

  • Elijah did not get any impact from wind / earthquake and fire. But the word says “after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.”

  • He heard the whisper of God with God talking to him “What are you doing here, Elijah?” '

Moses & Korah, Dathan and Abiram

We read in Numbers, Korah / Dathan and Abiram rose against Moses and Aaron and as a Group they opposed them. You see the Dunamis power of God taking action against them. I have given a excepts of the verses to make you understand.

Numbers 16:1-3,22-26,31-35 (NIV) 'Korah son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and certain Reubenites—Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth—became insolent and rose up against Moses. With them were 250 Israelite men, well-known community leaders who had been appointed members of the council. They came as a group to oppose Moses and Aaron and said to them, “You have gone too far! The whole community is holy, every one of them, and the Lord is with them. Why then do you set yourselves above the Lord ’s assembly?” But Moses and Aaron fell facedown and cried out, “O God, the God who gives breath to all living things, will you be angry with the entire assembly when only one man sins?” Then the Lord said to Moses, “Say to the assembly, ‘Move away from the tents of Korah, Dathan and Abiram.’ ” Moses got up and went to Dathan and Abiram, and the elders of Israel followed him. He warned the assembly, “Move back from the tents of these wicked men! Do not touch anything belonging to them, or you will be swept away because of all their sins.” As soon as he finished saying all this, the ground under them split apart and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them and their households, and all those associated with Korah, together with their possessions. They went down alive into the realm of the dead, with everything they owned; the earth closed over them, and they perished and were gone from the community. At their cries, all the Israelites around them fled, shouting, “The earth is going to swallow us too!” And fire came out from the Lord and consumed the 250 men who were offering the incense. '

  • Korah Son of Izhar, Dathan and Abiram Sons of Eliab along with 250 Israelite men as a group go and oppose Moses and Aaron Numbers 16:3 “They came as a group to oppose Moses and Aaron and said to them, “You have gone too far! The whole community is holy, every one of them, and the Lord is with them. Why then do you set yourselves above the Lord ’s assembly?””

  • What did Moses and Aaron do - They cried to God to hear their accusation Numbers 16:22 “Moses and Aaron fell facedown and cried out, “O God, the God who gives breath to all living things, will you be angry with the entire assembly when only one man sins?”

  • God’s anger came down to punish them - “Move back from the tents of these wicked men! Do not touch anything belonging to them, or you will be swept away because of all their sins.” As soon as he finished saying all this, the ground under them split apart and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them and their households, and all those associated with Korah, together with their possessions. They went down alive into the realm of the dead, with everything they owned; the earth closed over them, and they perished and were gone from the community

  • God’s anger killed Korah , Dathan and Abiram its families and everything they owned, in addition the 250 people who supported also were consumed in fire. And fire came out from the Lord and consumed the 250 men who were offering the incense. '

  • If you can just imagine how that day would be. This is the Dunamis power of God

God’s Assurance

There are many examples in Bible to Show God’s Dunamis power of God, we have many in Old and New Testament, I did show examples in Old Testament to make us understand the awesome power of God. The same power is available to us as well.

Acts 1:8 (NIV) - 'But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” '

  • Jesus did not say we will have it only for short time, its there till “to the ends of the earth.”

  • When we come in to Salvation, we receive the Faith and When we receive the baptism we receive the Holy Spirit

  • Many of us don’t know the Holy Spirit that is given to us has the Dunamis Power to do supernatural things, like healing, casting out demons, and performing other miracles

  • We are made to believe we are powerless by Satan, so that he can continue to dominate and separate us from God to his kingdom.

How to Get the Dunamis Power

As I mentioned earlier all who are baptised in the name of Jesus has received the holy spirit but for us to have this Dumais power manifest in us, We need the following

1. God’s Presence with us

We learn how Joshua was successful to lead the Israelites after Moses death, it all happened because God blessed and he was present with him

Joshua 1:1-2,5-7,9 (NIV) 'After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord , the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” '

  • God’s promise was there with Joshua “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

  • God’s strength was with him - “Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.”

  • God’s guidance was there with him - Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.

  • God’s encouragement was with him - Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

2. Obedience to God

As we walk and being lead by God, there is pride ,that comes to make us fall from his will and choose to walk against God’s plans. Obeying God is a basic and must have characteristic for us to receive Dunamis power.

We can learn a great deal from Israelites

Israelites were rescued by God from Egypt from the slavery of Pharaoh and were promised to be given the promised Land. There were more than 600K people excluding the Levites. But only Joshua and Caleb saw the promised Land that God showed him.

Numbers 1:44-46 (NIV) 'These were the men counted by Moses and Aaron and the twelve leaders of Israel, each one representing his family. All the Israelites twenty years old or more who were able to serve in Israel’s army were counted according to their families. The total number was 603,550. '

God did not show them as the Israelites did not obey what God asked them to do and they always had a murmuring spirit against God.

Joshua 5:6 (NIV) - 'The Israelites had moved about in the wilderness forty years until all the men who were of military age when they left Egypt had died, since they had not obeyed the Lord . For the Lord had sworn to them that they would not see the land he had solemnly promised their ancestors to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey. '

3. Worship God

As a child of God we are commanded to worship God

John 4:24 (NIV) 'God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” '

  • The promise is “his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth” but we choose to worship only when we have issues or challenges.

  • To experience the power of God manifest in each of us, we have to worship him.

  • Surround with people who are demon possessed and worship God and with his Power we can drive the demons

  • When we worship him he begins to send a Angel armies to bloat out the evil spirits thats causing to dampen our spirits.

4.Patiently endure

As we are called to follow God we will have challenges, as God has told, we will have trials and temptations in our walking with God, but the promise is we will need to endure and he will lead us a new spiritual blessing

Revelation 14:12 (NIV) - 'This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus. '

David promise is to endure the troubles as God will deliver us from all the troubles and nothing can harm us.

Psalms 34:19-20 'The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all; he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken. '

When Jesus was in the wilderness, he was tested 3 times and he endured the test and we read in Luke after he finished his fasting he was filled with the Power of Spirit to do many miracles and wonders.

Luke 4:14,22 (NIV) 'Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked. '

5. Repent / Rebuild and restore

We live in the world which is covered with multitude of Sins and as we walk we get trapped in many Sins that’s a abomination in God’s eye.

1 John 3:4 (NIV) 'Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. '

Repentance is the Foundation to breaking the Sin

Hebrews 6:1-2 (‘NIV) - Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. '

  • If you want to move beyond the elementary teachings of Christ leading to Maturity repent

  • Repentance not only frees us from the Sins ~ “acts that lead to death

  • Repentance also helps us Rebuild and Restores us in

    • Faith in God

    • It helps us on the “instruction about cleansing rites”

    • It strengths us “the laying on of hands” to chase bad / evil spirits from others as satan cannot accuse us that we have that Sin so the power cannot work.

    • It leads us to the “the resurrection of the dead” and new path to life in Jesus.

    • It protects us from the “eternal judgment.” we receive in the Day of the Lord.

So pray Earnestly and ask for his Dunamis power, he is gracious to give the same power, so that we can be like a Joshua / Elijah to God.
