As I was meditating the word of God I came across this wonderful verse in Bible
'For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. ' Hebrews 4:12
This verse is a well-known verse for many Christians, God gave me more insights to share this in this blog about this verse.

Why is it called a Double-edged Sword ?
'For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. ' Hebrews 4:12
“Sharper than any double-edged sword” – Why did the author use double-edge sword, he could have called just a sword.
Double-edged sword cuts both ways. Here refers to our inner characters and Outside characters we display. We all have two sides of our life, how we deal private and how we deal pubic. The word of God has the power to cut and penetrate the true intentions of one’s heart .
Soul and spirit
A distinction is made between soul and spirit.
We can say that soul seems to focus more on individuality regarding the inner life (often defined as the mind, the will, and the emotions)
The spirit seems to focus more on supernatural contact and power in the inner life.
The Spirit that come from God is Holy spirit and many time Satan brings the deceiving spirit, the word of God helps us discern and understand what comes from God’s as Holy spirit vs false spirit
Spirit is the light for a Christian spiritual life.
Joint and marrow
The joints and marrow are the deepest parts of man.
To divide the joints is to divide the bone outwardly.
To divide the marrow is to divide the bone inwardly
Why did the writer refer joint and marrow ? We have things in our heart ,like a hard grudges against someone, deep and strong as joint and marrow. It’s set deep. for some it goes from generation to generations, the Bible has the power to change that type hard things that we have in our heart, that’s why it refers equivalent to bone and marrow.
Thoughts and attitudes
Thoughts - Thinking really is the beginning of everything. Any invention, accomplishment or activity begins with a thought. This is the inward character of human being. Thoughts control our lives.
Attitudes - One of the other important aspects about thoughts is that they create our attitudes. An attitude in this sense is the position we hold with regard to a person or thing. So if we think that flying is dangerous our attitude will be that we don’t want to fly. This is the outward character of man based on what our inward character tells us to do.
How can we use the Power - Word of God ?
We can use this power of God that’s given to us freely. Early Christians did not have Bibles printed in or translated in their own language, we have 690 translations of the Bible, we have printed copy and many forms of E-book versions.
We can use the Power of Word by
1. Reading Bible
Read the Bible daily early first thing in the morning, when you are free from all the activities of the world, it gives you the directions for the day.
Reading Bible is not one time affair not only in times of trouble, if you want to taste the power of God it has to be read daily.
Once the word goes in to your heart and mind it acts as a double edge sword( Soul / Spirit, joints and marrow / thoughts and attitudes) starts to work to make your life alive and active.
Don’t read the Bible as a ritual.
Read the Bible in a sense of “what is God trying to speak to me ?“ when you read a verse - his spirit will reveal things which are hidden in your heart / life.
'Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. ' Hebrews 4:13
'Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ” ' Matthew 4:4
2. Meditate the Word of God
Meditation is not an instant coffee to get that quick boost, you need to devote the time for God to speak to you, make you understand what the word of God is saying to you directly. you are not going to hear from God unless you really want it. Remember it is God who is waiting on you. He wants to spend time with you in daily basis.
Reading a forward message in What’s up or Face book Post or daily devotion is not meditation.
Read a full chapter of Bible and meditate the verse that you read. Ask what God is trying to teach you, the Holy Spirit will guide you. If you have read this once read this again, its ok, when you read the 2nd time you will understand new things, God will reveal new things every time you read the same verse again and again, that’s the power of Word of God.
Meditate the word of God - many verses in Bible needs slow reading and reading that many times (again and again). At the outset the meaning of a verse is different than what god wants us to understand and apply in our life. Reading this slowly and asking God to help you understand is mediation, he helps you understand the word as-it-is and he will connect to you to your soul
If you don’t give the time to meditate, God will not reveal the meanings to you.
Meditation will lead you to understanding the will of God for you. Once you understand the Will of God you will start yielding to it and see God give you the blessings that he has planned in your life instead of what you are after. Psalms 1 explains that very well
'but whose delight is in the law of the Lord , and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. ' Psalms 1:2-3
If you want your life to proper as God desires, then meditate “which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers “
3. Praying to God
Prayer is the oxygen for a Christian life. Have the faith that Jesus is living God, assume he is standing next to you and start talking to Jesus like how you will talk to your father, call him appa / father and pour out your heart to him.
God will continue to talk to you in prayer thru the Holy Spirit, he will reveal many things in your life that’s not correct in God’s eyes. It can be sin’s / actions / talks what you do/negative emotions.
Every day he will make you more Holy the way he designed you, He is a God who understands our emotions, the change in you will come small steps and if you follow him daily he will transform you from Baby to an adult in Spiritual life.
4. Direction in times of trouble
The Word of God is the armour for a Christian life, read my blog “armour of god” it gives strength in times of trouble.
We will go thru trials and troubles in the world if we follow God, don’t assume you will not have any troubles when you read and follow God. But keep faith in God, God speaks to us directly with the word in these situations that’s why it’s written “'For the word of God is alive and active”
““As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.” - 2 Samuel 22:31 NIV
Struggles from Satan when you read the Bible
Satan does not like any of us reading the Bible.
Satan does not want us to understand the word, but once we meditate and understand the word, it takes out the power he has on us and God sets us free from our sins, removes the bondages that Satan has in us.
Satan is afraid of the word of God (“Bible”)
Satan’s tricks / deceptions cannot work once we know the Bible., as a Child of God we have the power to use the word of God and command him as Jesus did in the wilderness when tempted with Satan.
Satan knows the Bible very well than any of the Bible scholars or Bible teachers, watch out for False spirits and deceptive things which look like Holy Spirit and false teachers. we need to be very careful about what we are doing is an instruction from God or deception from satan. Test and do things only when it is in harmony with the word of God.
Once you start reading the Bible and live a spiritual life, satan will bring lot of troubles to you to make you believe that the challenges you get is because you read Bible. Remember our God is mighty and powerful than the problems you go thru.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12 NIV
He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. 2 Samuel 22:18 NIV
Nothing else is going to encourage and strengthen you like the Bible. Read it ,study it and think about it. Write it on your notepads.
The bible is full of promises. When you rely on it and trust the promises we don’t panic in any circumstances and that’s a good news for us!!!
